Drinking olive oil: a health and beauty elixir or celebrity fad in a shot glass?

<p><em><a href="https://theconversation.com/profiles/hazel-flight-536221">Hazel Flight</a>, <a href="https://theconversation.com/institutions/edge-hill-university-1356">Edge Hill University</a></em></p> <p>In the ever-changing world of wellness trends and celebrity endorsed health fads there is a new trend on the scene: daily olive oil shots.</p> <p>Celebrities such as <a href="https://poosh.com/why-kourtney-kardashian-drinks-tablespoon-evoo/">Kourtney Kardashian</a>, Beyonce, Gwyneth Paltrow and <a href="https://www.womanandhome.com/life/news-entertainment/jennifer-lopez-credits-her-grandmas-crazy-beauty-secret-for-glowing-skin-and-chances-are-you-already-have-it-at-home/">Jennifer Lopez</a> all extol the virtues of swigging extra virgin as well as slathering it on their skin, crediting olive oil for their glowing complexions.</p> <p>Lopez even based her JLo Beauty brand around the kitchen staple, claiming that her age-defying looks were not the result of botox or surgery but the family beauty secret: <a href="https://graziamagazine.com/us/articles/jennifer-lopez-skincare-routine/">moisturising with olive oil</a>.</p> <p>And she’s in good company. Hollywood star <a href="https://jnews.uk/goldie-hawn-swears-by-olive-oil-for-perfect-skin-at-76-best-life/">Goldie Hawn reportedly drinks olive oil</a> before bed and uses it topically as a moisturiser, while <a href="https://www.redonline.co.uk/beauty/a31184313/julia-roberts-olive-oil-hair-skin/">beauty icon Sophia Loren</a> really goes to town by bathing in the stuff.</p> <p>While these celebrities swear by the skin beautifying properties of olive oil, some skin types should <a href="https://scholarhub.ui.ac.id/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1182&amp;context=jdvi#:%7E:text=Background%3A%20Dry%20skin%20or%20xerosis,water%20in%20the%20stratum%20corneum.">give it a swerve</a>. Those <a href="https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/dth.14436">prone to acne</a> or eczema, for example, might find the <a href="https://www.jacionline.org/article/S0091-6749(21)00813-7/fulltext">olive oil exacerbates their problems</a>. Some <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22995032/">dermatologists warn against</a> using it as skin care altogether – bad news for JLo.</p> <figure><iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/3F7uc9jV9V4?wmode=transparent&amp;start=0" width="440" height="260" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe></figure> <p>Thanks largely to celebrity promotion, drinking olive oil has now become a <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/tv/lifestyle/tiktok-dua-lipa-ice-cream-olive-oil-b2479725.html">worldwide TikTok sensation</a>. Viral videos show influencers tossing back shots of cult olive oil brands, and proclaiming a wide range of health benefits from improving digestion to clearing up acne.</p> <p>Celebrity and influencers are sold on liquid gold but what about the rest of us? Can drinking olive oil really work on miracles for our health?</p> <h2>The benefits of olive oil</h2> <p>There’s no doubt that olive oil is full of good stuff. It’s high in polyphenols and antioxidants, which have protective qualities for the body’s tissues. It’s also a rich source of essential fatty acids, including oleic acid, which is known for <a href="https://foodrevolution.org/blog/olives-and-olive-oil-benefits/#:%7E:text=Compared%20with%20olives%2C%20olive%20oil,in%20polyphenols%20and%20antioxidants%2C%20however">lowering cholesterol</a> so reducing the chances of heart disease.</p> <p>Research has found that the inclusion of olive oil in the diet shows encouraging effects in a variety of <a href="https://doi.org/10.3390%2Fnu11092039">inflammatory and medical diseases</a> and can <a href="https://doi.org/10.3389%2Ffnut.2022.980429">support weight management</a> if used correctly.</p> <p>Replacing butter, margarine, mayonnaise and dairy fat with olive oil has been linked to a <a href="https://doi.org/10.1016%2Fj.jacc.2021.10.041">lower risk of mortality</a>. There’s also evidence to suggest that the protective compounds in olive oil may help <a href="https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0261649">guard against cancer</a>, <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10376491/">dementia</a> and <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29141573/">support the liver</a> <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7916323/">and kidneys</a>.</p> <p>But none of this is new information to health professionals. The health benefits of <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7466243/">extra virgin olive oil</a> are <a href="https://doi.org/10.3390%2Fnu11092039">well researched</a> and nutritionists have promoted olive oil as a swap for saturated cooking fat for years.</p> <p>After all, the <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7536728/">Mediterranean diet</a> has been touted as one of the healthiest diets in the world for decades. The diet itself can vary from region to region, but <a href="https://doi.org/10.3390%2Fnu15092127">virgin olive oil</a> is a <a href="https://doi.org/10.3390%2Fnu11092039">consistent element</a>. It’s used as the <a href="https://www.themediterraneandish.com/cooking-with-olive-oil/">main source of cooking fat</a> and included in everything from salad dressings to bread.</p> <figure><iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/krFcE5IPT7g?wmode=transparent&amp;start=0" width="440" height="260" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe></figure> <h2>Can fat be healthy? Yes and no</h2> <p>Fats are crucial for a balanced diet, aiding in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A,D,E,K and enhancing the nutritional value of meals.</p> <p>However, fat of any kind is also dense in calories and excessive consumption <a href="https://doi.org/10.1159/000336848">can lead to weight gain</a>. According to the <a href="https://www.who.int/news/item/17-07-2023-who-updates-guidelines-on-fats-and-carbohydrates">World Health Organization</a>, to prevent unhealthy weight gain, adults should limit their intake of fat to 30% of total energy intake with no more than 10% coming from saturated fats.</p> <p>Two tablespoons of olive oil – the standard amount in the shots taken by celebrities and social media influencers – contain 28g of fat (238 calories) and 3.8g of saturated fat equating to <a href="https://fdc.nal.usda.gov/fdc-app.html#/food-details/171413/nutrients">19% of the recommended daily intake</a>.</p> <p>That daily shot of extra virgin, then, might not be the best idea. Adding small amounts of olive oil to meals throughout the day is a more balanced – and appetising – approach to incorporating healthy fats into your diet.</p> <p>But what about Kourtney Kardashian’s <a href="https://poosh.com/why-kourtney-kardashian-drinks-tablespoon-evoo/#:%7E:text=First%20things%20first%2C%20it's%20recommended,a.m.%20(every%20other%20day).">claim that</a>: “It’s recommended to consume extra virgin olive oil in the morning on an empty stomach so the oil can coat your system and neutralize your stomach walls for optimal benefits?”</p> <p><a href="https://www.oliveoiltimes.com/briefs/consuming-olive-oil-on-an-empty-stomach-health-benefits/91503">Some brands</a> have also echoed the idea that consuming olive oil on an empty stomach offers unique health benefits. But no. There’s no scientific evidence to suggest this is true.</p> <p>For a healthy but more satisfying snack, Kourtney might try including a handful of olives into her daily diet. Olives offer the same rich array of nutrients, including vitamins E, A and K, alongside essential minerals such as iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium and amino acids.</p> <p>Unlike olive oil, olives have the added benefit of a high fibre content. The combination of fat and fibre enhances feelings of satiety, making olives a nutritious addition to the diet.<!-- Below is The Conversation's page counter tag. Christian Oliver's ex-wife shares devastating tribute following fatal plane crash

<p>The ex-wife of late actor Christian Oliver has broken her silence following a plane crash that killed the actor and their two young daughters, Madita Klepser, 10, and Annik Klepser, 12.</p> <p>Jessica Klepser took to Instagram to share a statement just days after the tragedy. </p> <p>"We are deeply saddened by the tragic plane accident on January 4, 2024, which took the lives of our beloved family members," <span style="font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Open Sans', 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;">she said in the post shared by Wundabar Pilates, the studio where she works.</span></p> <p><span style="font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Open Sans', 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;">Klepser added that Oliver and their daughters were returning from a holiday in the Caribbean, when the </span>single-engine plane they were traveling in experienced engine trouble and fell into the ocean.</p> <p>"Unfortunately, all four passengers on the small aircraft did not survive," the statement continued. </p> <p>Klepser then went on to honour her two daughters. </p> <p>"Madita, a vibrant 7th-grade student at Louis Armstrong Middle School, was known for her lively spirit and excelled in academics, dance, singing, and performances. </p> <p>"Annik, a 4th-grade student at Wonderland Ave Elementary School, was recognized for her gentle yet strong demeanor. She was always the first to offer a kind word or a comforting hug. Her passions included basketball, swimming, and various forms of art."</p> <p>"The deep bond, infectious laughter, and adventurous spirit shared by Madita and Annik will be profoundly missed in their communities," adding that Oliver's loss will also be "deeply felt by all who knew him."</p> <blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; "Buddy is the star": Jamie Oliver's son scores his own show

<p>Buddy Oliver is a chip off the old block after landing his own cooking show for the <em>BBC</em>, according to reports. </p> <p>The 12-year-old has already made a name for himself with his YouTube channel <em>Cooking Buddies, </em>where he creates cooking tutorials with his famous dad, the iconic Jamie Oliver, in their family home. </p> <p>With an impressive fanbase of over 133,000 subscribers, Buddy's skills have been recognised and he is now reportedly set to appear on the small screen. </p> <p>"Buddy has taken all of his dad's experience on board and is about to put it into play with his own cookery show," a source told <em>The Sun</em>. </p> <p>The budding cook will reportedly be joined by other kids on the show, who will learn tips from him on how to get started on cooking. </p> <p>"Jamie's fans have long been asking for his son to have his own show for their kids to enjoy," the source added, claiming that Buddy will be the star of the show. </p> <p>"Buddy is the star of the show. Jamie is keen for his son to prove himself to telly audiences, not just live off the family name.</p> <p>"So Buddy's got to showcase his technical skills and presenting ability. Jamie Foxx hospitalised

<p>Corinne Foxx, eldest daughter of American actor Jamie Foxx, has shared the news of her father’s hospitalisation.</p> <p>Taking to social media with a post on behalf of the entire Foxx family, Corinne revealed that Jamie “experienced a medical complication”, and that thanks to “quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery.” </p> <p>The 29-year-old actress went on to add that the family were grateful from the thoughts and prayers of Jamie’s followers, and that they were requesting privacy during their difficult time. </p> <blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; line-height: 17px; text-decoration: none;" href="https://www.instagram.com/p/Cq9NCSnu3gq/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading" target="_blank" rel="noopener">A post shared by Corinne Foxx (@corinnefoxx)</a></p> </div> </blockquote> <p>A source informed <em>TMZ</em> that Jamie’s condition had been so serious that members of the actor’s family had raced in from out of town to see him in hospital, but that “he’s communicating now, and that’s good news.” </p> <p>The scare comes just weeks after Jamie returned to the set of his film <em>Back in Action</em>, in the wake of reports breaking that the star had fired multiple people working on the project - an executive producer and two directors. </p> <p>“There have been some issues on set and Jamie has had a major ‘meltdown’ over it all,” a source told<em> The Sun</em> at the time. “He demanded the problems be sorted immediately and sacked four of the production staff, as if that would magically improve the situation.</p> <p>“Some people working on it are totally fed up with how this has played out and Jamie has become pretty unpopular.”</p> <p>It remains unclear whether or not Jamie’s illness will impact the filming schedule for <em>Back in Action</em>. As recently as days before his incident, Jamie had been seen recording scenes with co-star Cameron Diaz in England. </p> <p>Cameron had previously announced her retirement from acting, but credited Jamie with getting her back on board when she signed up to star alongside him - in their third film project together - when she declared on social media that “only you [Jamie Foxx] could get me back in action. I can’t frickin’ wait it’s gonna be a blast!”</p> <p>And while rumours have swirled that Cameron intended to resume her retirement following the reported on set ‘drama’, a source stressed to<em> Page Six </em>that this was not the case. </p> <p>“When you are in a position of authority, sometimes you have to make decisions to let people go who do not share the same vision as you,” the source said, before explaining that they would be surprised to learn of any lingering tensions between the film’s two stars.  </p> <p>“Cameron is a businessperson and understands that this is necessary at times and, honestly, Jamie is the only reason that she is doing this film and they are still very close.”</p> <p><em>Images: Getty</em></p>

<p dir="ltr">Actors, producers, and creative souls from all over arrived at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre to strut their sparkle down the 2023 Oscars’ champagne carpet. </p> <p dir="ltr">The event, otherwise known as Hollywood’s night of nights, was always set to break records and draw attention from film fanatics across the globe - hopefully for all the right reasons - with the likes of <em>Everything Everywhere All at Once</em>, <em>Elvis</em>, <em>The Banshees of Inisherin</em>, and <em>Top Gun: Maverick </em>up for Best Picture. </p> <p dir="ltr">In fact, <em>Everything Everywhere All at Once </em>was nominated for 11 awards by itself, with <em>All Quiet on the Western Front</em> and <em>The Banshees of Inisherin </em>following right behind with an astounding nine nominations each. </p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Everything Everywhere All at Once </em>snagged a staggering seven awards in the end - most notably, the cast and crew secured the top honour of Best Picture for all of their hard work.</p> <p dir="ltr">In the Hollywood comeback of the decade, Best Actor went to Brendan Fraser for his part in<em> The Whale</em>, and Best Actress to the multi-talented Michelle Yeoh for her performance in <em>Everything Everywhere All at Once</em>, who took the opportunity to remind women everywhere that “you are never past your prime”. Michelle also made history with her win as both the first Best Actress nominee and winner to openly identify as Asian. </p> <p dir="ltr">Meanwhile, their supporting award counterparts went to <em>Everything Everywhere All at Once</em>’s Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis. </p> <p dir="ltr">There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when Ke Huy Quan accepted his award - and made history as the first Vietnam-born actor to ever do so. He began by thanking his 84-year-old mother, who was watching from the comfort of home, saying “my journey started on a boat. I spent a year in a refugee camp, and somehow I ended up here on Hollywood’s biggest stage. </p> <p dir="ltr">“They say stories like this only happen in the movies. I can’t believe it’s happening to me - this is the American dream.” </p> <p dir="ltr">Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert snagged Best Director for <em>Everything Everywhere All at Once</em>. <p class="p1"><span class="s1">Hollywood star Jamie Lee Curtis has taken a swipe at society’s emphasis on youth, no more apparent than in her own industry.</span></p> <p class="p1"><span class="s1">The 59-year-old, visiting Sydney to promote new movie Halloween, the sequel to the 1978 horror classic of the same name, spoke of her dislike of the term “anti-ageing”.</span></p> <p class="p1"><span class="s1">“The term anti-ageing makes me crazy, the amount of marketing towards anti-ageing and making it a pejorative,” Curtis told <em><a href="https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/entertainment/sydney-confidential/actor-jamie-lee-curtis-on-why-the-term-antiageing-makes-her-angry/news-story/eec877ecef45fbb08670b1d872d2f8d5">The Daily Telegraph</a></em>.</span></p> <p class="p1"><span class="s1">“(Ageing) cannot be the pejorative because it happens to everybody. It is like everything else, it is an evolution,” said the actor.</span></p> <p class="p1"><span class="s1">Curtis’ comments come at an apt time in her career. She has reprised her iconic role as Laurie Strode, who took on serial killer Michael Myers 40 years ago on Halloween. Decades on, her character, now a grandmother, is still deeply affected by their battle but is as strong as ever and more than ready for the next round.</span></p> <p class="p1"><span class="s1">The actress too, seems at the top of her game. The sequel is raking it in at the US box office, and not only is she a formidable performer in the film, but it was really Curtis doing many of the fight scenes too.</span></p> <p class="p1"><span class="s1">“I am sitting here in my very nice red suit but this movie was obviously not a glamorous job and I am grateful that I get that opportunity,” she admitted to the publication. “Every fight is me.”</span></p> <p class="p1"><span class="s1">“I am fit but I am not a gym rat. It is just what we do. It is the nature of the beast — it is physical and it is painful. I cracked a rib, that is what happens.”</span></p> <p class="p1"><span class="s1">But Curtis, the daughter of Janet Leigh – who memorably starred in another iconic horror Psycho – and matinee idol Tony Curtis, has previously acknowledged her “struggle with my own self-esteem” when it comes to her body. She says she’s found a way to deal with it.</span></p> <p class="p1"><span class="s1">“So I have a big secret: I don’t look in the mirror,” Curtis told <em><a href="https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/life/entertainment/a22993869/jamie-lee-curtis-confidence-secrets/">Good Housekeeping</a></em> in a recent interview.</span></p> <p class="p1"><span class="s1">“I’m a 60-year-old woman. I am not going to look the same as I used to, and I don’t want to be confronted by that every day! When I get out of the shower, I have a choice: I can dry myself off looking in the mirror, or I can dry myself off with my back to it. <p>Whether you know her from her <em>Halloween </em>‘scream queen’ roots or her comedic prowess in the body swap <em>Freaky Friday</em>, Jamie Lee Curtis is an actress who needs no introduction. </p> <p>The star - who had been credited in an astounding 80 projects before her first ever Academy Awards nomination in 2023 for her role in <em>Everything Everywhere All at Once </em>- has seen and done it all. Beginning her career at the age of 19, Curtis has spent the years since adding success after success to her resume, and proving her doubters wrong at almost every turn. </p> <p>And in a candid interview with <em>Yahoo Entertainment</em>, the actress opened up about some of the most memorable roles that have steered her journey in Hollywood. </p> <ul> <li><strong>Laurie Strode, <em>Halloween </em>(1978)</strong></li> </ul> <p>Curtis made her film debut on the set of John Carpenter’s cult classic <em>Halloween</em>, and though the film (and its entire franchise) is considered to be one of the most influential horror films of all time, the then-19-year-old Curtis found nothing to be scared of while filming. </p> <p>The reason? Nick Castle, who played the film’s main antagonist Michael Myers, was too much of a delight to instill real terror in Curtis. </p> <p>“Here's the problem,” she explained. “He's played by Nick Castle, who was one of John's best friends. He had two little kids, his wife was around, and he's this funny guy. And he's also a very talented director and he's a musician. So I cannot lie to you and tell you I was so frightened." </p> <ul> <li><strong>Tess Coleman, <em>Freaky Friday</em> (2003)</strong></li> </ul> <p>Curtis was actually a last minute replacement for Annette Bening in the 2003 body swap comedy <em>Freaky Friday</em>, but that certainly didn’t put a damper on her experience. </p> <p>The actress became fast friends with Lindsay Lohan while playing the mother-daughter duo, and the pair have remained in contact ever since. In a fun friendship anecdote, Curtis shared how she has a test in place to find out whether or not it is Lohan texting her, or some sneaky stranger. </p> <p>"There's a song called 'Like I Love You' by Justin Timberlake. Lindsay and I were doing a scene in a car, and there was a lot of time in between takes, and there's a rap in the middle of that song by Clipse. She and I were trying to learn the words, and we were, like, sitting there with a pad,” she said. </p> <p>“We were writing them down,” Curtis continued. “And then we would do the scene, and then we'd play the song and try to lip-sync the few words that we knew. I'm telling you, we laughed. And that is my secret code with her. 'What was the song we were lip-syncing to in the car?'”</p> <p>She then confessed that while she may have given away their secret code, she wasn’t worried - the two have a second one, just in case. </p> <ul> <li><strong>Helen, <em>True Lies </em>(1994)</strong></li> </ul> <p>Although Curtis has said that the 1994 James Cameron blockbuster tops the list of her favourite filming experiences, featuring everything from a striptease to an intense helicopter stunt scene, she almost didn’t star at all, with co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger hesitant about signing her on to play his wife in the action packed project.</p> <p>When explaining why, Curtis noted that Arnold knew her “as Tony’s daughter”. Her father, Tony Curtis, had starred in the only film Schwarzenegger had directed, the 1992 <em>Christmas in Connecticut</em>. </p> <p>"He only knew me as Tony's daughter,” she said. “He loved Tony Curtis, so I'm sure Arnold just looked at me like it'd be like kissing your niece or something ... I guarantee, in fact, he did not want me to be in that movie. I think he just thought it would be weird. We knew each other a little bit socially. I just don't think he thought of me as his leading lady, I think he thought of me as Tony's little girl. And it was Jim who said, 'no, I've written this for her. Jamie Oliver shares details about wife's "deeply scary" health condition

<p>Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has opened up about his wife’s “deeply scary” experience with long Covid, as the illness remains uncharted territory with fresh data still being uncovered.</p> <p>Jools Oliver has been fighting the illness for the past two years.</p> <p>“She’s had bad COVID and long COVID, so she’s been really affected by it, sadly,” Oliver, 47, shared.</p> <p>“She’s OK, but still not what she wants to be.”</p> <p>“It’s been two years. She finds it deeply scary.”</p> <p>Her condition has left doctors stumped, with long Covid affecting 10-20% of people with ongoing Covid symptoms, according to the World Health Organisation.</p> <p>The popular chef explained they had seen specialist medical professionals but have been unable to cure her symptoms as the condition is still being learnt about.</p> <p>“We’re all over Harley Street like a rash, but no one really knows anything,” Oliver went on, referring to the street in London, known for being home to a large amount of private medical specialists.</p> <p>Despite her condition, Oliver says his wife continues to remain positive and keep her spirits up. Queen Elizabeth extends olive branch to Sussexes

<p dir="ltr">Queen Elizabeth II has extended an offer to her grandson Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to join her for a break over the summer. </p> <p dir="ltr">Despite tensions amongst the royal family, the Queen invited the US-based Sussexes to stay with her at Craigowan Lodge in Balmoral.</p> <p dir="ltr">The Queen is expected to stay there for 10 weeks at the seven bedroom house and will have various family members join her.</p> <p dir="ltr">When and if the Sussexes accept her offer, it is expected that no other royals will be present, The Sun reported.  </p> <p dir="ltr">“Staff have been told to expect the full list of royals including Harry, Meghan and their children Archie and Lilibet,” a Balmoral insider told the publication. </p> <p dir="ltr">“They are preparing for the Sussexes.”</p> <p dir="ltr">The Sussexes were in the UK from the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and spent only a limited time with the Queen in which she met their daughter Lilibet. </p> <p dir="ltr">It’s expected that the trip to Balmoral will give them quality family time.</p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Images: Getty</em></p>

<p dir="ltr">Beloved Hollywood actress Cameron Diaz is set for a massive comeback to our screens after retiring in 2014. </p> <p dir="ltr">The <em>Charlie’s Angels</em> star will star alongside Jamie Foxx in a Netflix movie called <em>Back in Action</em>. </p> <p dir="ltr">Foxx announced the exciting news on Twitter in the form of a three-way phone call between himself, Diaz and NFL player Tom Brady.</p> <p dir="ltr">Brady, who earlier in the year announced his retirement from the game but retracted it a few weeks later, was advising an “anxious” Diaz on how to come back into the spotlight. </p> <p dir="ltr">Foxx and Diaz have a quick chat where he is asking how she’s feeling, trying to calm her nerves before surprising her with Brady on the other line. </p> <p dir="ltr">“I was talking to Jamie and he told me you need a few tips on how to un-retire. I’m not looking to, but will I? I don’t know. First ever official portrait of Will and Kate released

<p dir="ltr">A gorgeous official portrait of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge has finally been released. </p> <p dir="ltr">Prince William and Kate Middleton were visiting Cambridge where the portrait by award-winning British portrait artist Jamie Coreth was being unveiled at University of Cambridge's Fitzwilliam Museum. </p> <p dir="ltr">The Duke and Duchess appeared all smiles when the portrait was unveiled with Prince William describing it as “big” and “amazing”.</p> <p dir="ltr">Artist Coreth said it was a “privilege” to be able to paint the photo of the Duke and Duchess which will remain at the museum for three years.</p> <p dir="ltr">"It has been the most extraordinary privilege of my life to be chosen to paint this picture," he said.</p> <p dir="ltr">"I wanted to show Their Royal Highnesses in a manner where they appeared both relaxed and approachable, as well as elegant and dignified.</p> <p dir="ltr">"As it is the first portrait to depict them together, and specifically during their time as The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, I wanted the image to evoke a feeling of balance between their public and private lives."</p> <p dir="ltr">In 2023, the portrait will be loaned to the National Portrait Gallery, of which the Duchess is Patron, to help mark the gallery's reopening.</p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Images: Jamie Coreth/Getty</em></p>

Emma Watkins fears due to debilitating condition

<p dir="ltr">Emma Watkins has opened about her greatest fears when it comes to starting a family due to a debilitating condition. </p> <p dir="ltr">The former Yellow Wiggle married partner Oliver Brian in a small afternoon garden party in the gorgeous Longmeadow Estate in the Victorian town of Tyrendarra earlier this month.</p> <p dir="ltr">She has since opened up about her fears of not being able to become a mum due to her endometriosis. </p> <p dir="ltr">“Speaking plainly, I just don’t know if I will be able to,” the 32-year-old told <a href="https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/entertainment/sydney-confidential/former-yellow-wiggle-emma-watkins-reveals-baby-battle-after-marriage/news-story/e66cf271152aa4a6f9480744ffa80cf4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Telegraph</a>.</p> <p dir="ltr">“After stage four endo, I am pretty realistic in the fact I don’t know what my chances are. John Travolta's son adopts puppy from the Oscars ceremony

“The court was wrong”: James Spears speaks out on conservatorship decision

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">After his immediate suspension from conservatorship of his daughter, Britney Spears, Jamie Spears has since issued a statement via his attorney, Vivan Thoreen on Thursday.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Mr Spears loves his daughter Britney unconditionally,” the statement said.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“For thirteen years, he has tried to do what is in her best interests, whether as a conservator or her father. THis started with agreeing to serve as her conservator when she voluntarily entered into the conservatorship. This included helping her revive her career and re-establish a relationship with her children.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“For anyone who has tried to help a family member dealing with mental health issues, they can appreciate the tremendous amount of daily worry and work this required. Actress Chloe Grace Moretz credits olive oil with getting rid of her acne. “I wash my face with olive oil,” she told <em>Allure</em>.  “I swear my skin is so much clearer because of it.” In the same way olive oil can remove oil-based makeup (more on that later), it can help remove the oil from your skin. Britney Spears’ father steps down as conservator

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">After a long-running legal battle over Britney Spears’ conservatorship that has captured the global public’s attention, her father, Jamie, has agreed to step down as her conservator.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Mr Spears has been the conservator of his daughter since 2008, meaning he has legally had control over her assets and financial decisions for the last 13 years.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">However, the singer’s lawyer said Mr Spears would now be stepping down from the role.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“We are pleased that Mr Spears and his lawyer have today conceded in a filing that he must be removed,” Britney’s lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, said in a statement.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Mr Rosengart described the decision as “a major victory for Britney Spears and another step towards justice”.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">According to celebrity website </span><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">TMZ</span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;">, though the court filing said there were no grounds for removing Mr Spears as conservator, “he does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over his continuing service as her conservator would be in her best interests”.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Mr Spears intends to work with the court and his daughter’s new attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to a new conservator,” the court filing said.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The pop star and her father have been in court several times recently, including when Ms Spears launched another legal bid to remove her father from the conservator role last month.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">She has spoken out on social media about the court-appointed conservatorship, which was initially a temporary measure following a mental breakdown in 2008, calling it abusive and humiliating.</span></p> <p><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Image: Twitter</span></em></p>

“I am traumatised”: Britney Spears speaks out against dad for the first time ever

<p>Britney Spears gave a jaw-dropping speech in court on Thursday regarding her ongoing conservatorship that has been active since 2008 – telling the judge her experience has been nothing short of “abusive”.</p> <p>The pop sensation alleges she was kept in a drugged state for years, has no control over her right to have children and has been banned from speaking out against her “harmful” situation to the public, in a blistering testimony.</p> <p>“He loved the control he had over me, one hundred thousand percent,” Spears said about her father Jamie Spears, who has had complete control over her finances since 2008 under her conservatorship arrangement.</p> <p>“I’ve lied and told the whole world I’m OK and happy. I’ve been in denial. I’ve been in shock. I am traumatised. I wish I could stay with you on the phone forever because when I get off the phone, I hear all these ‘no’s’. ‘No, no, I feel ganged up on.</p> <p>“I feel bullied and I feel left out and alone. I’m tired of feeling alone. I deserve to have the same rights as anybody does by having a child, a family, all of those things. That’s all I wanted to say to you - thank you so much for letting me speak to you today.”</p> <p>Spears also opened up about her controversial Las Vegas residency, saying she was “forced” to do it and further alleged that when she informed her management she didn’t want to do it, she was put on lithium, a “strong” drug that made her feel drunk.</p> <p>She says she stayed on lithium for five years.</p> <p>Spears also revealed she dreams of having more children and marrying her boyfriend Sam Asghari; however, her conservatorship has denied her wishes.</p> <p>Britney’s father Jamie said he was “sorry to see his daughter suffering and in so much pain.”</p> <p>The star’s boyfriend Sam Asghari made a public display of support for his girlfriend just hours before she spoke in court, posting a photo to Instagram in a “FREE BRITNEY” t-shirt.</p> <p><img style="width: 500px; height: 281.25px;" src="https://oversixtydev.blob.core.windows.net/media/7841993/britney-spear.jpg" alt="" data-udi="umb://media/d8b1544315824eaa92079a46b4156749" /></p> <p>However, he is not the only person that has offered his support as Britney’s conservatorship has sparked a global movement with a call to “end the tyranny.”</p> <p>Britney has been in a conservatorship since 2008 with her father, with reports from the New York Times alleging every aspect of her life is controlled right down to her Starbucks and iTunes purchases.</p> <p>Another hearing regarding the estate’s accounting documents is set for July 14.</p>

<p>In these strange and unpredictable times, the one thing you can always rely on is a good Jamie Oliver recipe.</p> <p>The beloved British chef knows how to make delicious, wholesome food, that’s usually achievable at home.</p> <p>His new series,<span> </span><em>Keep Cooking And Carry On</em>, is serving up his best recipes with a self-isolation twist.</p> <p>“Let’s celebrate freezer faves, big up the store cupboard and get creative with whatever we have on hand,” he says.</p> <p>Not only should you tune in to his show for the great recipes using isolation pantry items, but you also have something to do during your time at home.</p> <p>Here’s a recipe for you to try that only includes two ingredients – one of which is water.</p> <p>“My easy homemade pasta recipe is great for emergencies. You don’t need a pasta machine, just a rolling pin.”</p> <p><strong>Ingredients:</strong></p> <ul> <li>2 large handfuls of plain flour, plus extra for dusting</li> </ul> <p>This recipe is so simple, it doesn't even require proper measurements.</p> <p><strong>Method:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Put the flour in a bowl, then gradually mix in just enough water to bring it together into a ball of dough (if it's sticky, add a little extra flour).</li> <li>Knead for just a couple of minutes, or until smooth and shiny.</li> <li>On a flour-dusted surface, use a rolling pin to roll out the pasta to about 2mm thick.</li> <li>Dust it well with flour, then loosely roll it up. Use a sharp knife to slice it ½cm thick, then toss it with your hands to separate the strands.</li> <li>Cook in boiling salted water for 2 minutes, then drain and toss with your chosen sauce.</li> </ul>
